A Sister’s Talisman
“As life unfolds, time is created and memories are formed. Memories that serve as reference points to what life has been.”
A Sister’s Talisman, is a collection of wall hangings. A collection not only meant to be appealing to the eye but also to the soul. I derived my inspiration for this collection from one of my most precious memories as a child. A memory that involved my oldest sister, a summer evening, an old tire swing, and I. As I close my eyes waiting for the memory to rush to my mind, I clearly remember the cool breeze, her smile, and the dispersion of the bright city lights. Through my design I use colors to depict the emotions of two sisters interacting. I mimicked the dispersion of not only the lights that night, but also the dispersion of time through the use of line size variation and metallic thread. This collection is dedicated to my sister. Four and a half years ago, my sister suffered a terrible car accident which made her suffer from memory loss. I never took in consideration the value of memories and what they are really worth until I witnessed all my family having to introduce themselves to my sister as if she never had known us. There are many memories that have come back to Corina over the past few years, but there are many that she does not remember, this June I will be giving the weave I made to my sister. I don’t know if she remembers that night when we spun too hard on our old tire swing, to the point of the rope breaking away from the tree. As if it were trying to tell us to slow down and enjoy life a little slower, a little better.
